Welcome in, welcome in!

I have archived here a few bits and baubles of mine that I find or have found meaningful, varying in mode. Please, feel free to stay a while, and nosh on anything to be found in my humble nook of this Library of Babel we call the Web.

I (A.W.) am a graduate of Yale College with a B.A. in English and Music, specializing in composition. I care deeply about music as universal connective tissue, and thus I am often concerned with the classical tradition—in which I am deeply entrenched—and its imperialist ties and obfuscations of history. What matters much more to me than any lauding of the great canon are the moments of suspended time which come with great music, no matter the genre.

Precise, culturally critical writing invigorates me. There is always more nuance to be excavated, a more ambiguous logical flow chart to consider, especially when gleaned from those with whom disagreement is certain, and frustration seems an inevitability. Everyone tends to think they are fundamentally correct; but education, as David Foster Wallace so excruciatingly lays bare in “This Is Water,” is learning to actively resist that tendency, despite its inertia.

So I try, here, to stay always skeptical, and forever curious.
